Safety First:
Gift Thermometer:
As donations are received through Lily’s List, your “thermometer” will automatically reflect progress toward your goal. If your balance should change for any other reason; for example, if part of your loan is paid off outside of Lily’s List donations, it is your responsibility to notify us at info@lilyslist.com and request that we change your goal amount.
- You do not need to list your full name on your PFP page. You may enter just your initials – or even a nickname! Don’t forget, you also have a unique ID number that friends and family can use when searching for you.
- You do not need to fill in all required fields. For fields that require an entry you can always type in ‘not listed.’
- If you don’t want to include a current photo of yourself, how about a picture of your pet? Don’t leave it blank. A picture tells a thousand words and makes your PFP more interesting.
Creating an attractive PFP:
Your PFP is your “face” to all potential donors. People viewing your site are likely to be relatives. Don’t post anything you wouldn’t want your grandma to see. Present your educational and personal information in a professional, accurate and specific manner. Donors will search by the information you provide, so don’t leave any fields blank. It’s very important that you include a photograph that will allow family and friends to recognize you. Treat the information and photographs you share in your Lily’s List PFP to be at the same level of appropriateness as that of a resume you might use to pursue employment.
How to tell family and friends about your PFP:
It may feel awkward to share your Lily’s List PFP with family and friends, but it’s important to spread the word. These are the people who will most likely be more than happy to help you realize your goal and will view your Lily’s List membership as a responsible, mature approach to handling your student loan debt–feel free to choose from the three templates below to get started:
Email Option #1
Hi,
I just joined the new website www.lilyslist.com and wanted you to know about it. This site is designed to help me pay down my student loan debt as a gift registry. Although I am responsible for making my regular loan payments, this site encourages me to be disciplined in another way; by directing future gifts (birthday, graduation, etc) to go directly into my student loan account. (Instead of into my pocket where it’s bound to be spent on less important stuff.)

Email Option #2
Dear Family and Friends,
I am excited to let you know about a new website I’ve joined to help me pay down my student loan debt. Now my family and friends have the option of going to this site and directing a gift for any occasion such as a birthday, holiday, or graduation, and designating it as a deposit into my student loan account.
Your gift would not be a substitute for the monthly payments I personally make to my student loan account, but with your help I can further reduce my student loan debt. My goal is to free myself from debt and to pursue all the things I’ve dreamed of doing with my education.
If you are able and willing to offer your financial support, here’s a great big THANK YOU in advance! If not, thanks for at least taking the time to visit my profile page. [enter the link to your page here.]
In the future, you can easily find me again:
1. Just go to www.lilyslist.com
2. Click on the Search Page
3. Search by using my ID number: [enter your ID number here]
Thanks so much!

Email Option #3
Hi – check out my new profile page on Lily’s List, the Student Loan Gift Registry.

Mom was right – send a ‘Thank You’ – It’s important !
You’ve heard it before – make sure to show your appreciation for gifts with a written “thank you.” This is especially true for the generous folks who send you gifts through Lily’s List. When you receive a notification email from Lily’s List that a gift has been posted to your account, take a moment to say “thank you.”
We’ve made it easy: sign in to your account, go to your donations page, click on the donor’s name, and send a thank you message. That way your supporters know their gifts are appreciated and have made it to the right place. If you need help writing a “thank you” here’s a suggestion—but please feel free to add your own personal touches.
Dear (Donor Name)
Thank you so very much for donating to my Lily’s List account and reducing my student loan. Through your contribution I am one step closer to a more secure financial future. Thank you for believing in my potential and supporting my education. I am truly grateful.
Sincerely,
(Your first name)
